I've probably played 4 games with them now, so not many, but I have noticed the following things: Fire Warriors often get wiped out before they can do anything significant - [Ketla Tr'n Five - Recovering the Truth](https://www.pauljoyce.co.uk/2014/ketla-trn-five-recovering-the-truth/) - The Chaos ship slipped undetected through the darkness of space - closing in on its target like a silent eagle in the wind. It was left as a - [Tau Victory on the Plateaus of Ketla' 5](https://www.pauljoyce.co.uk/2014/tau-victory-over-space-marines-40k-games-workshop/) - With a chilling rush of frozen air, the transporter ship doors slid open to reveal a white-out of snow and ice. The Tau XV8 Battlesuits embarked outwards, their night vision sensors peering into the blizzard that engulfed them on all sides. Visual enhancements, laser scanners and thermal mapping arrays built up an overlaid image of - [Dark Vengeance is Dawning](https://www.pauljoyce.co.uk/2014/40k-dark-vengeance-is-dawning/) - After well over a decade of not playing Warhammer 40K - I have finally relapsed back into its addictive dice rolling ways. I find board games just don't have the immersion and tactical nature to them that 40K did. Also Xbox and Playstation games lack the 'collect-ability' and social aspects. Back further into the world - [Dominion (Card Game)](https://www.pauljoyce.co.uk/2013/dominion-card-game/) - Dominion is a card game like no other I've played before. It's produced by Rio Grande Games and fits into the genre of collectible card games, similar to phenomenally popular games like Magic: the Gathering. From lists of names for guards, to spell generators or even entire cities and worlds – here’s a collection of my DM inspiration articles to hopefully take your D&D or Pathfinder world to the next stage. - [Homemade Wargaming Terrain](https://www.pauljoyce.co.uk/tag/homemade-terrain/) - Making wargaming terrain is a fantastic side of miniature building / collecting that often get overlooked by those starting in the hobby. Custom terrain is not only easy to make (or buy off eBay/Etsy), but it totally transforms the battlefield. From the hive of Necromunda, to the streets of Cadia and over to the desert dwellings of WW2 Africa… there is so much scope for homemade wargaming terrain in your life! - [Forgotten Realms](https://www.pauljoyce.co.uk/tag/forgotten-realms/) - [Neverwinter City](https://www.pauljoyce.co.uk/tag/neverwinter-city/) - [miniatures](https://www.pauljoyce.co.uk/tag/miniatures/) - [Twitter](https://www.pauljoyce.co.uk/tag/twitter/) - [Competition](https://www.pauljoyce.co.uk/tag/competition/) - [World Building](https://www.pauljoyce.co.uk/tag/world-building/) - [Postcard Maps](https://www.pauljoyce.co.uk/tag/postcard-maps/) - [Tyranids 40K](https://www.pauljoyce.co.uk/tag/tyranids/) - [Painting](https://www.pauljoyce.co.uk/tag/painting/) - Whether I’m painting 15mm Brits in desert camo, fluorescent Tyranids, or entire buildings for Stalingrad – painting surely covers a wide hobby! My go to paints at the moment are Vallejo as they are both affordable and offer a great finish, plus their Air range go through the airbrush perfectly. - [German Army](https://www.pauljoyce.co.uk/tag/german-force/) - [Infantry Miniatures](https://www.pauljoyce.co.uk/tag/infantry/) - [AndyP](https://www.pauljoyce.co.uk/tag/andyp/) - [Roll20](https://www.pauljoyce.co.uk/tag/roll20/) - [Cthulhu](https://www.pauljoyce.co.uk/tag/cthulhu/) - [Art](https://www.pauljoyce.co.uk/tag/art/) - [20mm Scale Miniatures](https://www.pauljoyce.co.uk/tag/1-72-scale-miniatures/) - 20mm scale fits snuggly between the vast quantity of tiny 15mm troops and the much more detailed 28mm. You get a great compromise of both 15mm and 28mm – small enough to allow for large sprawling games, but still meaty enough to be able to hold great detail in individual miniatures. This is the default scale, if there is such a thing, for Battlegroup rules. - [Painting Recipes](https://www.pauljoyce.co.uk/tag/paint-recipe/) - [Necromunda](https://www.pauljoyce.co.uk/tag/necromunda/) - [Goliath gang](https://www.pauljoyce.co.uk/tag/goliath-gang/) - [Soviet & Russian Army](https://www.pauljoyce.co.uk/tag/soviet-russian/) - [Pacific Theatre WW2](https://www.pauljoyce.co.uk/tag/pacific-theatre-ww2/) - [Allies WW2](https://www.pauljoyce.co.uk/tag/allies-in-ww2/) - My experience of WW2 miniatures largely falls into the side of the Allies. I’ve got swathes of 20mm Soviets for the Eastern front, some 28mm US Marines out in the Pacific, combined with some tiny 15mm Brits stuck in Egypt and Libya, Africa. - [28mm Scale Miniatures](https://www.pauljoyce.co.uk/tag/28mm-miniatures/) - This scale of miniature lends itself to smaller, squad based games, packed full of miniatures teaming with detail. At this scale you could pick out individual buttons on an officers uniform; however down at 15mm scale you may be lucky to pick out an entire grenade for painting! At this scale I currently (2021) have some Necromunda and 40k figures from Games Workshop, as well as some Germans and US Marines for WW2. - [15mm Scale Miniatures](https://www.pauljoyce.co.uk/tag/15mm-scale-miniatures-1-100th/) - A delightful scale for use at larger more expansive wargaming theatres. Naturally fits with Flames of War (FoW) war games, version 1-4, but also is easily playable using the Battlegroup rules. - [Plastic Soldier Company](https://www.pauljoyce.co.uk/tag/plastic-soldier-company/) - [Basing Miniatures](https://www.pauljoyce.co.uk/tag/basing-miniatures/) - If you pickup a miniature and look at it, you’ll be drawn to the face and then probably the uniform, followed by the gun. With the mini in your hand you’ll easily be able to pick out fine details that have been painted or added. However when you have a squad of miniatures, or have maybe hundreds of miniatures on the table, most of what you see and can easily focus on is the miniatures base. Basing miniatures really help make a model pop. Miniature bases act as a form of cohesion between squads, or even throughout entire armies. - [Bolt Action Miniatures](https://www.pauljoyce.co.uk/tag/bolt-action-miniatures/) - [Eureka Miniatures](https://www.pauljoyce.co.uk/tag/eureka-miniatures/) - [Zvezda Miniatures](https://www.pauljoyce.co.uk/tag/zvezda-miniatures/) - [Tank Miniatures](https://www.pauljoyce.co.uk/tag/tank-miniatures/) - [Axis WW2](https://www.pauljoyce.co.uk/tag/axis-ww2/) - [Support Vehicle Miniatures](https://www.pauljoyce.co.uk/tag/support-vehicle-miniatures/) - [House Rules](https://www.pauljoyce.co.uk/tag/house-rules/) - [Minefields](https://www.pauljoyce.co.uk/tag/minefields/) - [Tall Building Terrain](https://www.pauljoyce.co.uk/tag/tall-building-terrain/) - [Smoke Screen](https://www.pauljoyce.co.uk/tag/smoke-screen/) - [Mortar Units](https://www.pauljoyce.co.uk/tag/mortar-units/) - [Forged in Battle Miniatures](https://www.pauljoyce.co.uk/tag/forged-in-battle-miniatures/) - [Normandy](https://www.pauljoyce.co.uk/tag/normandy/) - [Operation Overlord](https://www.pauljoyce.co.uk/tag/operation-overlord/) - [Operation Neptune](https://www.pauljoyce.co.uk/tag/operation-neptune/) - [African Theatre WW2](https://www.pauljoyce.co.uk/tag/african-theatre-ww2/) - [British Army](https://www.pauljoyce.co.uk/tag/british-army/) - [United States Army](https://www.pauljoyce.co.uk/tag/united-states-army/) - [D-Day](https://www.pauljoyce.co.uk/tag/d-day/) - [Operation Bodyguard](https://www.pauljoyce.co.uk/tag/operation-bodyguard/) - [Faerun](https://www.pauljoyce.co.uk/tag/faerun/) - [Waterdeep](https://www.pauljoyce.co.uk/tag/waterdeep/) - [Baldurs Gate](https://www.pauljoyce.co.uk/tag/baldurs-gate/) - [Island Map](https://www.pauljoyce.co.uk/tag/island-map/) - [dominion](https://www.pauljoyce.co.uk/tag/dominion/) - [expansion packs](https://www.pauljoyce.co.uk/tag/expansion-packs/) - [card games](https://www.pauljoyce.co.uk/tag/card-games/) - [Four Against Darkness](https://www.pauljoyce.co.uk/tag/four-against-darkness/) - [4AD Expansion Rules](https://www.pauljoyce.co.uk/tag/4ad-expansion-rules/)
